Small Business Saturday is coming up, November 26th.  Make plans to get out into your neighborhood this weekend and support local small businesses. When you support small businesses, you make a positive impact on your community.  When you shop locally, more of your shopping dollars stay in your community than when you shop at a national store - $68 of $100 stays in your community as compared with $43 when spent at a national or big box store.

So, as we begin our holiday shopping this season, let's get out there and support our local small businesses and let them know that we appreciate their contributions to our neighborhoods!

  • We Want You to #OptIn This Black Friday

This Friday, November 25th, Market Street Shoes will be Opting In for the 5th year in a row by participating in Ballard Gives Black Friday.

Give your holiday shopping dollars depth and power this year by supporting Ballard Businesses as they donate portions of their sales on Black Friday, and some through the weekend, to nonprofits of their choice. Instead of fighting crowds for doorbusters, do some shopping you can feel good about by supporting communities in need.

At Market Street Shoes, we will continue our partnership with Labateyah Youth Home by donating 5 dollars for every pair of shoes and clothing item sold. Labateyah Youth Home provides “a safe and nurturing environment for homeless youth, combining Native American wisdom and ceremony with educational, medical, and social services.”

Last year, your #OptIn efforts generated nearly 1,000 dollars for Labateyah! This year, we’re hoping to cross 1,500 dollars, and if you want, you can help by donating beyond what your purchase generates.

More information about Labateyah can be found here:

  • 10 Years...

    10 Years...

    Quietly celebrating 10 years today...
Ten years ago today, we threw open our doors with hope and a dream, a lot of passion and 12 pairs of shoes on the wall. Today we celebrate where we've come from, where we're at, and where we're going, sometimes steering the ship, sometimes weathering the storm, sometimes along for the ride, but always approaching our day with a passion for our business, for our customer, and for our community.
There have been many milestones along the way, and to borrow from close friends who are also celebrating an anniversary today, the following retrospect is sure to entertain...
In our ten years of business we have sold over 100,000 pairs of shoes, 10,000 of them in women's size 8 alone. A little more than 27,000 of them were black, but nearly 800 of you went in for orange a time or two. Men clocked in at about 10,000 pairs, and there were a few thousand kids in there for a spell, but alas, everything changes.
In ten years we've been open 3,620 days, we have had 3 stores, 2 locations, 103 employees and 145 brands. We've had 1 war, 3 Presidents and 1 Great Recession. We've moved, expanded, shrunk, combined, changed, added to and taken away. We've had 1 rat, 6 squirrels, and a dozen birds drop by, plus the occasional celebrity musician, athlete, Hollywood exec, chef, and political pundit.
We have expanded our offering to include clothing, both men's and women's, which is exciting and continues to grow. We have many plans for the future, most immediately our 10th birthday bash on June 11th - stay tuned. We have been working on re-branding, to better reflect where we're at, and have a remodel in the pipeline, to get us where we're going.
Thank you for your 10 years of support, we couldn't have done it without you!!!
  • Peony & Moss

    Peony & Moss

    A funny story...
We introduced you to Lilimill a couple of weeks ago in our "Trip to Venezia" post, and while reading through the comments we noticed one by someone unfamiliar to us. So, naturally we clicked on their profile to discover that she was the designer at Peony & Moss. "What's Peony & Moss?" we asked ourselves.
Well, turns out Peony & Moss is a locally owned and designed line of gorgeous, cotton socks. Socks? "Heck, we carry socks." So we reached out to Peony & Moss, and low and behold, we're now carrying their socks. Oh, and if the world didn't seem small enough already, it turns out that the designers behind Peony & Moss and Frock Shop are friends as well. Clever, since the two lines look quite nice together. Oh my gosh, stop the cute already.
Anyway, you're going to want to come in and treat yourself to some new socks, you know it's true...
  • A trip to Venezia

A few years ago, Lanne made a trip to Venice, Italy.  While there she fell in love with a shoe, imagine that.  The atelier of Lilimill became the object of her love affair, and finding room in her luggage, she managed to squirrel a pair away and bring them back home to the states.  Upon her return she looked far and wide for an importer, a distributor, anyone who could help her bring them to the store.  Alas she was unlucky and the her efforts dwindled, the twinkle of Lilimill fading from her eyes.

One afternoon last Fall, a couple of reps, importers of several Spanish lines that we carry, came for an appointment to show us Spring '16 product. As she and her husband began placing shoes on our showroom wall, Lanne's jaw dropped open.  She sprang to her feet grabbing one of the shoes off the wall, clutching it to her, that twinkle reappearing in her eye.  "You have Lilimill," she exclaimed.  Why yes they indeed had Lilimill, and long story short, so do we... and now you.

Welcome Lilimill.  Our first Italian brand.
