Join us this Veterans Day, Saturday, November 11th as we look to honor our veterans and to raise awareness around issues affecting those who have served, in particular, those at risk of homelessness, struggling with mental health issues, lasting physical trauma and battles with substance abuse - all of which make it difficult for veterans to successfully reintegrate into their communities.We're honored to partner with our friends at The Seattle Stand Down again by donating 20% of our sales from our Ballard and Redmond locations towards their efforts to "aggressively prevent and eliminate homelessness among veterans" by giving veterans a "hand up" not a hand out.
As you might have seen on our Instagram or Facebook, we recently attended the MAGIC trade show in Las Vegas. We saw a lot of great new product, and Onigo Imports is one of the brands we were most excited to carry.
Each bag is handmade from real Raffia by a skilled local artisan on the island of Madagascar. Not only are these bags beautiful, they are also Fair Trade and have a great story. From their website;
“Onigo works with a cooperative of over 500 Artisans who produce these fabulous products in their own home. Every day, Bakoly, our driver, circles around the Island picking up whatever wares are ready. The goods are then brought to our warehouse in Madagascar where the production is inspected by Haingo and his team before starting to assemble the shipment for the container. It can take up to 8 weeks to fill up one container.”
We have these amazing bags out in both locations, so come see them in person soon! Hopefully it's love at first sight for you like it was for us.
We are so excited to add Swedish brand Fjällräven to our brand lineup! This outdoor and lifestyle brand started in 1960 after the founder was unsatisfied with the current hiking backpacks available. They were the first brand to comercially distribute framed backpacks, and their collection grew from there.
Now they are well known not only for their hiking gear, but their lifestyle products as well. Our first delivery only includes the backpacks, but we will have some great outerwear pieces and sweaters coming soon as we head into the fall season!
The Teva Original Sandal was born on the Grand Canyon in 1984 as two watchbands and a pair of flip-flops. Three decades later, Teva has grown into an icon of comfort and utilitarian style. The new Original Universal Premier takes everything that made the Original Sport Sandal so special, and modernizes it. With added comfort, versatility and style, the Original Universal Premier allows you to go anywhere and do anything.

Small Business Saturday is coming up, November 26th. Make plans to get out into your neighborhood this weekend and support local small businesses. When you support small businesses, you make a positive impact on your community. When you shop locally, more of your shopping dollars stay in your community than when you shop at a national store - $68 of $100 stays in your community as compared with $43 when spent at a national or big box store.
So, as we begin our holiday shopping this season, let's get out there and support our local small businesses and let them know that we appreciate their contributions to our neighborhoods!
This Friday, November 25th, Market Street Shoes will be Opting In for the 5th year in a row by participating in Ballard Gives Black Friday.
Give your holiday shopping dollars depth and power this year by supporting Ballard Businesses as they donate portions of their sales on Black Friday, and some through the weekend, to nonprofits of their choice. Instead of fighting crowds for doorbusters, do some shopping you can feel good about by supporting communities in need.
At Market Street Shoes, we will continue our partnership with Labateyah Youth Home by donating 5 dollars for every pair of shoes and clothing item sold. Labateyah Youth Home provides “a safe and nurturing environment for homeless youth, combining Native American wisdom and ceremony with educational, medical, and social services.”
Last year, your #OptIn efforts generated nearly 1,000 dollars for Labateyah! This year, we’re hoping to cross 1,500 dollars, and if you want, you can help by donating beyond what your purchase generates.
More information about Labateyah can be found here:
